Youth Rally Report

Asbury Youth trudged through snow and ice with our beloved Ferdinand the Penguin to Ocean City, Maryland, to attend the annual Youth Rally. The rally was held at the Roland Powell Convention Center Friday, January 5, through Sunday, January 7.

This year’s theme for the rally was “Marathon,” based on Hebrews 12:1, which describes the “Race of Faith”: Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Thoughts brought back by these awesome students include:

(1) Don’t let disabilities or problems define you.

(2) Don’t get caught up in everything going on all around you. Preston Cenuolo, the main speaker, used the phrase, “Silence the noise.”

(3) Don’t listen to negative self-talk, worry about things that might or might not happen, or be concerned with what others say about you.

Concentrating on these things takes our focus off of God and the things that truly matter.

We heard great concerts by Tenth Avenue North (a personal favorite of mine) as well as the Social Club of Misfits, and Jasmine Murray. Praise and worship each session was led by Jimi Cravity.

We were able to spend quality time together as a group at the hotel where we enjoyed swimming, game room, lots of pizza, and playing cards and games. We laughed a lot, shared  things we learned, and made some wonderful memories together.
