Rev. Lewis Bio

Rev. Julie A. Lewis, an ordained Elder in The United Methodist Church, was appointed to Asbury UMC in Smyrna, DE as of July 1, 2019.  In ministry since July 1, 2007, she was first appointed to Trinity UMC in Laurel, DE where she served for 7 years. Her next and current appointment is at Rockawalkin UMC in Hebron, MD where she will complete her 5th year before coming to Asbury.  She holds two Bachelors of Science degrees from Salisbury University: in Respiratory Care and Biology.  She worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist for many years and taught high school science in Sussex County for 6 before entering the ministry. She is a Masters of Divinity graduate of Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC; graduating in May, 2013.  Pastor Julie was ordained as a Full Methodist Elder in June 2015.

A native of Parsonsburg, Maryland and graduate of Wicomico Senior High, Pastor Julie moved to Laurel, DE in 1989, where she lived until moving to Hebron, MD.  She has three grown children: Ariodne Lewis in the Air Force currently serving in Japan; Joshua Lewis, married to Brittany, soon to be living in Rhode Island; and Mark Lewis, wife Paige, a Marine for 8 years who will be attending The Citadel in Charleston, SC in the fall.  She is the proud grandmother of Jackson Lee and Emma Grace Lewis, son and daughter of Mark and Paige.  Julie also has a long-haired Dachshund named Abigail who is afraid of everything but is very loving. Pastor Julie’s brother Travis Miller lives with her and he along with his dog, a sweet Pit Bull Terrier puppy named Naomie will be joining her at the parsonage.

Pastor Julie loves God and endeavors to share the love of God with all people.  She is passionate about the Word of God and sharing that Word in worship, in teaching and in building relationships with all who want to know about the deep, unconditional love of God that is especially seen in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Definitely a hands-on, relational pastor, she desires to do whatever it takes to walk alongside the people in our faith community to help transform the world by loving God and our neighbors as ourselves.  It’s all about the love of God and reaching out to those in need, to those who need peace and to those who need to know that there is someone out there who calls them by name and loves them just the way they are.  She believes in relational evangelism: showing the love of God through building relationships and drawing people to become disciples of Jesus Christ through those relationships and God’s prevenient grace. And why do we do that? For the transformation of the world, of course! Love God, love people. Change the world for Christ!

If you would like to learn more about the Christian life and how to begin a relationship with Jesus Christ, feel free to speak to Pastor Julie.  She would be happy to talk with you and to answer any questions you may have.
